Even though both relationships ended peacefully, there is something about each of them that turns me off that will linger in the back of my mind. Personally I agree with your point of view. I mean,I know my intentions when still dealing with an ex, and it's never to get back together. Most likely they were in my life in some capacity before we dated so what's the issue with them being there after? (Barring abusive relationships, cheating, etc..because then why would you want that kind of person in your life anyway?) I consider myself a pretty secure person, so under most circumstances, I don't have a problem with my significant other still being in contact with an ex. I trust that the person I'm with has the same loyalty and respect for the relationship we have, call it naive or whatever, I'm going to trust the contact between them is platonic until I'm given a reason not to. In that case, there's no need to stay in the relationship if it's not. I'm not "enemies" with any of my exes. In some cases, we just realized we were in different places and our relationship doesn't work. That means I have to stop talking to them? Even the ones where cheating is involved, yeah it hurt, but I'm Over it. No we can't be friends (because you can't genuinely care if you hurt me like that) but cordial conversation when seen shouldn't be looked at as a bad thing..in my opinion of course. There are those that say " nothing new can grow on old soil" meaning you can't build a new relationship with exes still in the picture. Supposedly it brings bad energy to the current situation. I don't 100% disagree, I just think it depends on the intentions. There is no ex that I would want to go back to because once I'm done, I'm done. If I'm not completely done, I don't try to start something new. I know how to be single..some people should try that sometimes.
